What motivated you to become a mortgage broker?
I started in 2013 as a mortgage broker. Before that, I sold properties as a real estate agent. I frequently told prospective buyers that the property I was selling wasn’t suitable for them and started pointing them to other properties for sale that were not my listing. My mentor at the time (a mortgage broker and buyer agent) said I was not a salesperson but an advisor because I looked after my client’s interest before mine. I should consider becoming a broker and buyer agent because I am good with numbers and people and am passionate about helping people by doing the right thing. I gave it a go and never looked back.
Was there a specific moment or event that led you to this path?
I worked for a developer in Docklands selling apartments, and other local agents asked me to join their team. None of their offers appealed to me, as my gut felt that selling properties wasn’t my passion. I consulted my mentor, a mortgage broker and buyers agent (and had a long-standing successful career as a real estate agent before mortgage broking), and he said that I might consider being a broker and buyers agent.
What impact do you want to make in the lives of your clients?
I want to provide shelter to as many people as possible fundamentally, and building on that, I help people build wealth. This could be by buying homes or investment properties for people to rent. In addition, that helps my clients grow their wealth to eventually achieve freedom—financial, time, and location. Finance gives people the leverage for investments—shares, businesses, or property—and helps them achieve their dreams sooner.
For the people who cannot get finance yet, I want them to learn something and grow personally from their direct or indirect interaction with me. It could be a change in mindset, confidence, attitude, perspective, outlook—anything at all. By interacting with me, I want them to feel better and hopefully pass on the positivity to people in their circle of influence. And this is what I mean by “I strive to contagiously radiate a positive impact on people far beyond my direct reach”. People can also include stakeholders, employees, suppliers, clients, industry colleagues, referral partners, professional networks, etc. Anyone within my contact sphere and circle of influence.
What values guide the way you operate your business?
People before profits – I prioritise people’s well-being over profits. People include clients, employees, and suppliers.
Education – I aim to educate people in every encounter so they learn something new and grow from our interaction.
Simplicity – I strive to keep things simple and seamless, as life is already busy and complicated.
Curiosity – I seek to learn about people and their stories to help them as much as possible and present their application with a good supporting story for lenders who are one step removed to understand them better and have a more compelling reason to approve their loan application. This increases the chances of approval.
Abundance – I believe there are enough resources and opportunities for everyone to thrive in their desired ways. Our business is open and transparent; we don’t keep any knowledge or information from anyone.

Someone resourceful who can solve problems, or know someone who can.
A selfless person who genuinely cared and tried his best to help people improve their lives.

What’s one piece of advice you always give to first-time homebuyers or to investors?
There is always a compromise between location, property type, and price. The best property in the best location often falls outside our budget. The quicker you adjust your expectations to meet your reality, the more successful you will be in the long term. Everything is temporary, including higher rates and lesser-than-ideal outcomes. Take a few steps back and see the bigger picture instead of stressing over every little detail. Seek professional advice and find someone you can trust to leverage their knowledge and experience to fast-track your journey.
What’s your favourite way to unwind after work or during the weekend?
I do chores around the house and hang out with my kids. Otherwise, I like to catch up on cars, gadgets, and tech. But, in reality, most of my time is spent thinking about growing my business.
